Check folate, vitamin D, iodine, iron and choline per daily serving. Some are full multivitamins while others are add-ons such as DHA. Avoid products containing retinol or high levels of vitamin A during pregnancy.

Why does vitamin A matter in pregnancy?

The NHS advises avoiding supplements containing vitamin A (retinol), as too much can harm an unborn baby. Beta-carotene is a different form, so check the label.

Should I ask my midwife?

Yes. Speak to your GP or midwife before starting a supplement, especially if you have a health condition or have been told you need a higher dose of folic acid.
